Weatherization Programs

The Weatherization program provides identification of high-energy consumption habits, and counseling and education of clients for energy-efficient living. Funded through the Office of Energy Resources, this program provides materials and labor needed to increase the energy efficiency of homes of low-income individuals.  12 months of energy bills are required.  Click on this link, then click your county on the map for your local agency.

Minor Home Repair Program 
Individuals who are 62 and older or who are disabled will receive assistance with minor home repairs such as handicapped toilets, handrails, leaking bathroom and kitchen faucets, and repairs of bathroom and kitchen floors. A maximum amount of $2,000, which includes contractor’s labor and materials cost, will be allowed per home.

Georgia Power
This program provides materials, labor and knowledge necessary to increase the energy efficiency in the homes of low-income, Georgia Power customers with electricity as a primary heating source.

Lead Based Paint Counseling
Many homes and apartments built before 1978 contain paint with high levels of lead.  Counseling on Lead Safe Practices will be provided at Community Service Centers and Head Start Parent/Teacher meetings to clients and the general public.  A pamphlet approved by the Environmental Protection Agency is provided during the counseling sessions.

Minor Car Repair Program 
Individuals will receive assistance with minor car repairs such as batteries, tires, water hoses, engine belts, etc. The individual must be employed for at least six (6) months on his/her job. His/her employer will be contacted concerning job good performance. Two bids must be submitted from certified mechanics as well as proof of current car registration and insurance and vehicle must be in applicant’s name. A maximum of $300 will be allowed per vehicle.
